It was the summer between 10th and 11th grade and sections of our foothill town were ablaze. Hot days and drought had turned the pine, oak and manzanita covered hills around my family home into a tinderbox.
Great story and I have one to match it. Only we were slightly older and DID start a fire with a bottle rocket from an A&W parking lot on Hwy 49 in Gold country CA. Once we saw the Fire Department and police showed and we knew the fire was contained we skedaddled in (you guessed it) my VW bus. Got a bit down the road and pulled off and hid as the cruisers came flying by.
This is a great story! Did the cats survive? ~J
Thanks, Janice. Yes! Cats survived. Not sure if this counted as one of their nine lives or not.
Aha. I've never heard that their nine lives were all actually 'nice'....
Some miscreants start young.
And some never seem to stop ^ ;-)

Wow! Even worse! Same region, same vehicle, same bad ideas—we even had an A&W. Are you sure we didn't hang out as kids?
lol , one would think, except uhm for the age difference 😉😀
